The Redesigned Website

The Redesigned Website

Our website no longer reflects who we are or how our users expect to see us. I’m convinced we can turn that challenge into an intuitive experience that truly serves every visitor.

Me

The Montana State Fund website had become visually dated and difficult to navigate, with content structures that no longer supported the organization’s digital goals. More importantly, it failed to reflect Montana State Fund’s refreshed brand identity and its customer centric mission. Leading the website redesign presented a key opportunity to transform the site into a modern, intuitive platform that enhanced usability, strengthened brand alignment, and improved communication with diverse user groups.

STRATEGY

As the organization’s sole web content manager, I led a full scale rebuild rather than a surface level refresh. Partnering with Montana State Fund’s IT department ensured a secure, stable technical foundation, while collaborating with the branding agency Partners Creative helped deliver a modern, user first design that reflected the organization’s personality and purpose.

Using insights from Google Analytics, I identified six primary audience segments—agents, policyholders, injured workers, medical professionals, employees, and the public—and restructured the site to provide clear, dedicated pathways for each. This audience centric approach ensured that visitors could quickly find relevant resources and information.

Comprehensive stakeholder engagement was central to the strategy. Through consultations and listening sessions across departments, I gathered key insights into user needs and business objectives, which informed both navigation design and content hierarchy. These sessions also fostered organizational buy in and prepared teams for the upcoming transition.

Once the framework and content plan were completed, I collaborated with the agency to implement design templates featuring authentic photography of real policyholders and employees, reinforcing both trust and brand credibility. Over several months, I independently migrated and coded all site content while supporting the legacy site. When the pandemic delayed the launch timeline, I adapted project communications and implementation plans to maintain momentum. I also developed training tutorials, conducted virtual walkthroughs, and built a test environment to ensure a confident, error free launch.
